Kayla S.
Veterinary Assistant
Hi, my name is Kayla Stein, and I am a Veterinary Assistant at Harvey Memorial Animal Hospital. I am passionate about providing high-quality care and helping every patient feel at ease during their visit.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of work, I love staying active — paddleboarding, hiking, swimming, and four-wheeling are some of my favourite ways to spend time outdoors here in Grosse Point, MI. I also enjoy crocheting as a creative way to unwind. At home I share my life with four cats — Hou and Dini, both 12-year-old brown tabbies who are very vocal and cuddly; Nemo, an 8-year-old orange cat who loves to play tag; and Howl, a 4-year-old black cat who prefers hiding or cuddling with his brothers. I also have a dog named Calcifer, or Cal for short, a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd who is incredibly smart, energetic, and always ready to play fetch.
Favorite Part of My Job
My favourite part of this job is seeing all the different animals that come through the hospital and getting to know their unique personalities. Every patient is a little different, and I love helping each one feel more comfortable during their visit. I also love how diverse veterinary medicine is — no two days are ever the same, especially when working with exotic species.
Why I Chose This Profession
I have always loved animals and wanted to do more than just give them love and affection — I wanted to truly help them feel better and lead happier lives. Being part of their care and recovery is incredibly meaningful to me.
Work History
I began my career at PetSmart as a Groomer from April 2016 to July 2021, where I developed strong handling skills working with dogs and cats of all temperaments and breeds. I then moved into veterinary medicine as an Overnight ER CSR at Wilson Vet Hospital from July 2023 to May 2024, where I triaged patients and assisted with overnight emergency needs. I joined Harvey Memorial Animal Hospital following my time there.
