Annalise Reed

Veterinarian

Hi, my name is Dr. Annalise Reed, and I am a Veterinarian at Harvey Memorial Animal Hospital in Detroit, MI. I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was a child — I have always adored animals and knew from an early age that I wanted to spend my life helping them. At home I share my life with Billie, my 4-year-old spayed Australian Cattle Dog. We adopted her as a puppy and she has been an incredibly energetic, intelligent, and deeply loved addition to our family ever since.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with loved ones, horseback riding, playing with Billie, and keeping active.

Favorite Part of My Job

The variety of cases and clients I get to interact with every day is what I love most. No two days are the same, and I enjoy thinking on my feet and getting to meet so many different pets and their people. My clinical interests include soft tissue surgery, preventative medicine, senior pet care, and animal behaviour — I find behavioural cases particularly rewarding.

Why I Chose This Profession

Beyond my love for animals, I really enjoy building relationships with people and sharing my knowledge. Veterinary medicine has allowed me to combine all of these passions — advocating for animals and their owners while building meaningful connections along the way.

Education

I earned my Bachelor of Biological Sciences with a Minor in Animal Sciences from the University of Georgia in 2022, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I went on to complete my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2026.

Work History

My first veterinary role was as a Kennel Assistant at Platz Animal Hospital in the summer of 2017. During the summers of my undergraduate degree I returned home to Michigan to work as a Veterinary Assistant at Harvey Memorial Animal Hospital, facilitating appointments and supporting the veterinarians with whatever was needed each day. In the summer of 2022, I interned at Michigan Humane, a Detroit shelter, where I completed physical exams on incoming strays, ran diagnostics, assisted with spay and neuter surgeries, and helped animals through the full journey from shelter intake to adoption. The following summer I interned with the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), researching cases and writing client-friendly articles for Veterinary Partner — three of which have been published: Article 1, Article 2, and Article 3. I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and I hold a Fear Free Certification completed in 2022. During veterinary school, I was also honoured to receive the Bruce Hollett Award from our school's veterinary honour society, which recognises students with outstanding records of leadership and service to the college and community.
